SCHOOL BUS SAFETY RULES FOR STUDENTS

TAKE YOUR CHILD TO THE BUS STOP YOURSELF

Adults must go with the children to the bus terminals and stay with them until the school bus arrives.

If you are working parents, drop your child at the bus stop and distinctively ask them to stand in a safe spot, wait for the bus driver to display the stop sign, and move towards the bus.

AVOID DRAWSTRINGS

Drawstrings can get stuck in school bus doors, fences, or seats, so make sure your child isn’t wearing or carrying anything that has a drawstring in it. Double-check their shirt, jacket, and school bags to be sure.

You can also replace the drawstrings with another latch that does not pull easily.

AVOID GADGETS NEAR THE BUS

Children can get easily distracted using headphones, cellphones, and MP3 players. Therefore, it is advisable to urge children not to use any electronic device until they have boarded the school bus safely.

AVOID BUS DANGER ZONES

Parents and children must learn about bus danger zones like bus wheels, front, and rear.

Usually, school buses park at the loading zone, bumper-to-bumper. So always teach your children to stay at least 12 feet away from a parked bus to avoid walking in between.

CROSS STREETS SAFELY

Always stay on your side of the road and wait for the bus to stop. Check the traffic both ways before crossing the street.

Also, make sure you reach the bus terminal in at least 5 minutes to avoid any delay and hassle.

EXIT THE BUS CAREFULLY

Make sure you walk along the side of the road until the bus driver is visible to you. Always stop and wait for the signal from the driver before crossing the road. After looking for traffic both ways, cross the road when the vehicles stop.
